MediaVaultHD Navigation MVHD Installation and Setup
Proper operation depends on proper installation and setup. It only takes a few minutes to get from unpackaing your MVHD to transfering files or making backups to your new external hard drives. Here are the basic steps...

Unpack & Inspect

Open and inspect the contents of your MVHD. One large box holds the MVHD fireproof container. A second box will contain documentation, two four-foot twin-lead USB cables, keys, backup software, and your Seagate hard drive(s).

Install First Hard Drive

Installing Hard DriveOpen the MVHD lid. Connect your first hard drive to the interior USB cable marked “A”. Slide the hard drive into the foam slot closest to the rear of the MVHD.

Install Second Hard Drive (MVHD-500)

Connect the second hard drive to the interior USB cable marked “B”, then slide it into the second foam slot. For maximum protection, close and lock the MVHD.

Position the MVHD Near the Computer

Place your MVHD such that the rear of the MVHD is within four feet of available USB ports on your computer.

Connect First External USB Cable

Connect one external USB cable* between your computer and the MVHD rear port “A”. A blue light should light up on the end of the hard drive connected to internal USB cable “A”. Your computer should automatically detect the new drive within several seconds and make it available for use.

Connect Second External USB Cable (MVHD-500)

Connect one external USB cable* between your computer and the MVHD rear port “B”. A blue light should light up on the end of the hard drive connected to internal USB cable “B”. Your computer should automatically detect the new drive within several seconds and make it available for use.

Close the Lid

Once proper electrical operation is verified (your PC finds and assigns drive letters for each new hard drive), you should close and lock the lid to your MVHD for full protection.

Install Backup Software

A CD is provided with your MVHD containing a complete backup software suite (Windows compatable only).

*NOTE: External USB Cable

Twin-Lead USB CableThe “twin-lead” USB cable is a four foot 24 AWG cable. The “Mini-B” plug connects to the MVHD rear panel. The standard USB plug is used for data and power and it connects to your computer. The pass-through USB pigtail connector is an Auxiliary Power input that is only required to be connected to another USB port on your computer if the computer does not supply sufficient power to operate the external hard drive through the main USB connection. This will be evident if the hard drive makes a distinct clicking noise even though the blue light is lit (you may need to hold your ear next to the drive to listen for this noise).
